I feel a disturbance in the Intertubez...

The Pirate Bay is down,
defeated and sold.
The Internet halted.

Well, it seems that TPB is down since this morning. Court order, technical problems... Who cares? They are now corporate sold-outs anyway.

The intertubez are wise, they will reroute themselves around the blackhole left by The Pirate Bay.

I already started rerouting my bittorrent traffic, you will be wise doing the same.

Here you have a hint, and another one.

First impressions with Movable Type

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
To make it short: I'm impressed.

There are those who claim that Wordpress is extremely user friendly, while Movable Type is the opposite.

Well, there is a bit of truth in that statement: Wordpress is extremely user friendly for non-technical users (a.k.a. morons). On the other hand, if you have some computer skills, you'll feel more comfortable and free with Movable Type: It lets you do whatever you want to, without limiting your options or constraining you. It's kind of like the eternal Windows vs Linux dichotomy.

As for security, Movable Type wins hands down.

About vampire-teen-romance crap.

One year later

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

A year without writing. Life getting in the way. Or maybe writing getting in the way? Who knows...

To make things worse, the Wordpress hack pandemic has been skyrocketing. Really ugly stuff. To the point that I have been forced to clean the wordpress installation from infection 5 times in a year. That's almost twice a month. Not even our crappy friend Windows is so prone to infection. Outrageous.

Whenever I felt like posting a little bit, I couldn't. And by the time I was done cleaning up the mess, the mood was gone. So, change was needed, and I decided to switch to Movable Type, whose security record is particularly good.

During the switch, the encoding of the older entries went rogue again. In a final effort to become totally useless, wordpress managed to bring up again the whole UTF-8 vs Latin1 encoding fiasco. Whoopy shit. Thankfully, it is the last time will happen. Bye bye Wordpress.

So, expect a deep cleaning of the older entries. I will reformat some of them, probably delete a lot of them, and definitely write more from now on. By the way, I moved to Brazil. South American stamps where missing from my passport, so I decided to give it a try. Now there is only Antarctica left...

A haiku, from one of the four great masters, feels appropiate for ending this post:

though I'm loving
these travels of mine...
it's cold!

Archlinux fortune cookie haiku package

I've got a fortune cookie file with a collection of more than 7000 haiku poems from the master Kobayashi Issa. I've created an Archlinux package out of it. Enjoy :)

Upgrades

From wordpress 2.1 to 2.5. I should have done that ages ago.

From my loyal old laptop to the new bleeding edge one. Time to give some rest to Case and put the newcomer Hiro to work. (I name my laptops for cyberpunk characters.)

From Slackware 12.0 to Archlinux. New laptop, new distro. I'm going to keep Slackware running my servers, though.
